Sharing the value of inclusive excellence in health professions education, David A. Acosta, MD, chief diversity and inclusion officer for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC), visited the University of Arizona Health Sciences on Feb. 7 and 8.
Dr. Acosta provides strategic vision and leadership for the AAMC’s diversity and inclusion activities across the medical education community and leads the association’s Diversity Policy and Programs unit. He presented to faculty, students and staff at the UA College of Medicine – Phoenix on Feb. 7 and the UA College of Medicine - Tucson on Feb. 8.
In addition, Dr. Acosta met with leadership from the UA Health Sciences, UA College of Medicine – Phoenix and UA College of Medicine – Tucson to promote inclusive excellence, including valuing and embracing authenticity and diversity. Dr. Acosta’s message to promote inclusive excellence and to value and embrace authenticity and diversity, reinforces the UAHS objective to sustain an academic setting where all belong and are a part of the fundamental fabric of the institution.
Dr. Acosta also met with members of UAHS advisory committees that inform leadership on matters and issues related to diversity and inclusion. These committees identify strategies and priorities to improve diversity and inclusion at UAHS and are composed of students, staff and faculty members from the five health colleges and non-academic units at UAHS.
