COM-T is committed to creating an environment of inclusive excellence. One major step in achieving this goal is improving our learning environment to recruit, develop, and retain a diverse and inclusive pool of faculty, fellows, residents, students and staff. With that goal in mind, the Office of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion facilitates a series of trainings promoting the value of diversity, equity and inclusion

Learn About Our Trainings:

Bias, Beyond the Implicit  – In this training participants will explore the neurobiology of bias, explore types of bias beyond implicit and develop strategies to mitigate them. Length: 1 hr.

Mending Health Inequities Through Culturally Humble Care - In this training, we will look at contributing factors that lead to healthcare inequities. Participants will develop an understanding of how culturally humble care can diminish those inequities and improve patient outcomes. Length: 1hr.

Med Safe Zone Training – This training program is committed to making UACOM-T a safer, more welcoming, and inclusive environment for members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer (LGBTQ+) community. The training covers terms and concepts relevant to LGBTQ+ identities and participants come away with clear action items in becoming a better ally in their personal and professional lives. Ideal for all students, residents/fellows, faculty, and staff. Length: 2 hrs.

Implicit Bias & Interviews - This training reviews biases that may influence how candidates are evaluated during an interview. It also reviews self-presentation tactics as well as strategies to reduce the effects of biases. Ideal for admissions and admissions committees. Length: 1hr.

Microaggressions – This training reviews microaggressions as a form of unconscious bias and discusses strategies to combat the effects of microaggressions. Ideal for all students, residents/fellows, faculty, and staff. Length: 1 hr.

Confronting Bias – This training offers an in-depth discussion on confronting bias and being an ally. It covers the psychological and sociological implications of (not) confronting bias and provides a scenario for participants to examine how they would react if presented with the opportunity to be an ally. By the end of the training, participants will be equipped with tools to become better allies. Ideal for all students, residents/fellows, faculty, and staff. Length: 1 hr.

Inclusive Websites – This training reviews the importance of appealing to a diverse audience through your website. It also reviews elements to include in your website to attract a diverse audience. Length: 1hr.
