The Department of Psychology, in conjunction with the College of Medicine Office of Diversity and Inclusion, is pleased to announce the University of Arizona Summer Institute for Behavioral Health (UA-SIBH).
The UA-SIBH is an intensive four-week educational program for underrepresented undergraduate students to explore and prepare for behavioral health careers. Selected students will enroll in a Summer Session I or Summer Session II course that provides clinical and research experiences in psychology and allied disciplines. A major focus will be on preparation for graduate school while also providing “real world” experience in clinics and research labs. Students enrolled in the program will be provided a stipend of $1,800 during the program. Participation requires a full-time commitment for 4 weeks.
The UA-SIBH program has 4 major components:
- Classroom instruction on psychotherapy, including techniques of cognitive behavioral therapy and the opportunity to practice in a simulated setting
- Graduate school application preparation, including assistance with personal statement writing and intervew techniques
- Community placements to volunteer at behavioral health institutions
- Research exposure to understand how research is conducted and learn about the research being done in behavioral health
The online application will open January 22 with a February 28, 2014 deadline. For more information, visit www.diversity.arizona.edu/ua-sibh or contact the Coordinator, Kathleen Butters at butters@email.arizona.edu.
